2 Social Security Changes for 2025

GoBankingRates.com recently wrote about the changes which are:

  1. Smaller COLA Increase: The 2025 Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) is expected to be only 2.7%, a drop from recent years due to lower inflation. Unfortunately, these adjustments often fall short of actual retiree expenses, further eroding purchasing power.
  2. Later Full Retirement Age (FRA): For those nearing retirement, the FRA is set to increase. Individuals turning 66 in 2025 will need to wait until 66 and ten months to avoid early filing penalties. This change emphasizes the importance of strategic planning around benefit claims.

To offset these changes, retirees can prepare by building an emergency fund, reducing unnecessary expenses, and even considering a side hustle to boost their financial stability.

What reading can do for your health.

What a healthier brain? Pick up a book or newspaper. Reading is good for you in ways you don’t even realize, and it may help extend your life.

A recent article on SeniorHousingNet.com says, “Frontiers in Psychology indicates that those who engage in regular reading have an advantage over those who read casually or don’t read books at all when it comes to cognitive awareness. Additional research has also shown that reading books regularly can actually reduce stress, help improve sleep and even increase life expectancy.

Choosing the right long-term care option is an important decision many older adults face daily. If a late-life move is part of your healthy aging plan, the next step is choosing a new place and preparing for what’s next.   • Respite Care: An assisted living or skilled nursing facility that caters to short-term medical care for older adults and others recovering from surgery or a serious illness.
  • Assisted Living:  A housing option that provides support for Activities of Daily Living that typically includes transportation, meals or meal preparation, housekeeping, laundry, recreational and exercise activities. In some cases, these communities will help with care tasks like bathing, washing hair, or dressing if they become harder for a resident to do on their own.
  • Memory Care Facilities: A skilled nursing or assisted living community with larger staff that offers more supervision and security features designed specifically for people living with memory impairment.
